DRILL DESIGN was established in 2001 as a result of Yusuke Hayashi and Yoko Yasunishi’s wish to put their efforts together into a common business which aims to create products for private and public entities. The Tokyo-based studio presents projects which incorporate the skills of the two Japanese artists in the area of industrial and graphic design. Hayashi and Yasunishi designed several individual product series under the same brand name in collaboration with some of their big clients. Some of them are the series of furniture made from the innovative Paperwood material (a combination between wood veneer and paper, pressed into a plywood sheet), the Geografia geometrical informative toys and the Tempo kinetic sculptures. The secret of DRILL DESIGN’s innovative projects lies in their collaboration with a great number of local partners. Enhancing their knowledge in the area of traditions based on working with materials and applying them to modern technology, Hayashi and Yasunishi present innovative designs without a
match. Their loyal clients are the well-known MUJI, CANON, Mercedes, Camper and others.
